Ingredients

  • 5 medium Limes Scrubbed clean; use 4 if they are very large.
  • 3 ¼ cups Cold water Use filtered water for the best taste.
  • 3 cups Ice Makes it perfectly slushy.
  • 1 can (14-oz.) Sweetened condensed milk This is the secret to that magical creaminess!

Equipment

  • 1 High-speed professional blender Necessary to break down the lime peels effectively.
  • 1 Fine-mesh stainless steel sieve To ensure a silky-smooth texture without pulp.
  • 1 Large glass pitcher or mixing bowl For catching that bright, fresh juice.

Method

  1. First, give your limes a little scrub under cold water—we're using the whole fruit, so we want them clean! Cut off the ends, then quarter them. I always make sure to slice out that white veiny pith in the center; it's a tiny extra step my grandmother taught me to keep the drink from being too bitter.
  2. Pop those limes into your blender and pour in the cold water. Pulse and blend on high for about a minute. You’ll see it transform into a beautiful, cloudy pale green. It’ll smell so bright and citrusy, your kitchen will feel like a tropical getaway instantly!
  3. Hold your fine-mesh sieve over a pitcher and slowly pour the mixture through. I like to use a spoon to gently press the pulp—we want every last drop of that lime goodness! Once you're done, discard the solids and give your blender a quick rinse so it's ready for the final magic step.
  4. Pour that fresh juice back into the blender. Now, add the ice and that luscious sweetened condensed milk. Blend again until it looks thick, frothy, and perfectly slushy. Seeing the color shift to that soft, pale yellow always makes me smile—it’s just so inviting!
  5. Pour it immediately into glasses filled with more ice. Garnish with a fresh lime wheel and serve it right away! This drink is all about that fresh, frothy texture, so don't let it sit—cheers to a beautiful summer day with your favorite people!

Notes

Avoid the Bitterness: Don't over-blend the limes in the first step. 60 seconds is plenty!
Dairy-Free Option: You can swap the condensed milk for coconut condensed milk—it adds a lovely tropical hint.
Make it a Cocktail: For the grown-ups, stir in 1.5 oz of cachaça or vodka into each glass.
Best Served Fresh: This drink separates if it sits too long, so I always recommend blending it right when you're ready to sip!
